      I like people to be friendly and curious too!!! Frustratingly though people sometimes don’t take you seriously when you are being friendly and curious (it drives me mad) so you have to project an aura of polite professionalism in some circumstances

      Good point. I personally try to be friendly and professional at the same time when possible but there are some situations when others expect you to be more formal.

      I think that in situations where everyone is being formal and polite, it tends to be because they are afraid of how they will be regarded if they become informal. I tend to be fearless in such situations, and start being informal. Usually, everyone seems to breathe a sigh of relief, because then they think that informality is suddenly allowed, and they let their hair down.
