Hi crockett, I was always interested in “how things worked” but didn’t know that was “science” until I was at secondary school. A biology teacher at school said I would be a good scientist which made my first seriously think about it as a career,

I didn’t really think about it that much – I always enjoyed science at school and it was my strongest subject so I did that at university and ended up doing a science job because of that.

I wanted to be a scientist because that’s the subject that interested me the most.

For some reason I have always been interested in space. When I was 7 I wanted to be an astronaut. I asked the teacher at School what I would have to do so that I could be an astronaut. By this time, I was already wearing glasses. The teacher told me that she thought astronauts needed to have perfect vision, so I could never be one.

From that moment on, I have had two goals in life:
      1. To never ever be a primary school teacher, because clearly they are the most evil species on Earth
      2. To become a scientist so that I could figure out a way for people with imperfect eyesight to go into space.
