      The most important invention ever is the transistor – this is what makes computation possible, and is the basis of the modern world. It’s just a little bit of electrical gadgetry that enables an automatic switch to happen – a bit like the “if yes go this way, if no go the other way” bit on a flow chart. The second-best invention ever is the airplane. My favourite invention is the internet.

      the wheel. It is a cliche but imagine not having bikes. Or cars. Or roller blades. Or tractors and ploughs and clocks (cogs…)
