There’s LOTS that I don’t know about in science – I know very little chemistry or biology. But I’m interested in many areas that I don’t work in – space, medicine, theoretical mathematics…. I am very fortunate because on my radio show, I can ask questions to scientists from those areas to find out more – http://www.pythagoras-trousers.co.uk/
I’d like to know more about astrophysics and cosmology (the science of the very big), and quantum physics (the science of the very small and peculiar!).
I’ve always wanted to know how things work – I can’t stand mysteries – so I’ve tried to find out at least a little about everything. But I haven’t got very far with (a) molecular biology, and (b) human psychology. I want to know much more about both. Molecular biology is all about tiny little machines that, when all working together, make living things. There are thousands and thousands of different types of the little blighters, and I’m waiting for someone to make a big “Top Trumps” pack about them, so I can study it. Human psychology is about trying to understand how and why people do what they do, and if I knew more about it, I could get myself to do better science, to concentrate better, to watch less Judge Judy, and get students to understand things more easily and quickly.
I don’t know much about nanotechnology but would like to. Imagine nano sizes robots patrolling your blood stream and keeping your arteries clean for you, or zapping HIV infected cells, nanotechnology is such an exciting area to be in right now.
