      It’s the name for a naturally occurring bodily function. Somebody made up the name, but they didn’t make up the function.

      It’s just a phase that everybody goes through when growing into an adult. So it hasn’t really been made or discovered as such.

      I guess it was ‘made’ by evolution- if we didn’t go through puberty, we wouldn’t be able to reproduce and our species would be a dead end….!
