      There will be a series of natural disasters in 2012. But there are natural disasters every year. There’s nothing special about 2012, except that it’s the year of the London Olympics.

      Probably yes – there are most other years – e.g. the Japanese earthquake earlier this year.

      There have been natural disasters since long before humans evolved and there are lots of myths relating to earthquakes, tsunamis and floods in Ancient civilisations. It probably feels like there are a lot more of them now because the internet makes it possible for us to follow the disaster as it unfolds and watch the hardship of the people living through it. Global warming is also leading to greater weather extremes, increasing disasters such as droughts, floods and cyclones
