There are lots of renewable options – wind power, solar energy, water… and let’s not forget nuclear energy.

We can already generate electricity from hydro-power schemes. But wind, solar etc are all viable forms of renewable energy that can be used to generate electricity.

To run cars, there is always biofuel (made from plants), or hydrogen (which we can make from algae, among other things), or just basic rechargeable batteries. For domestic energy, in the long run we’ll be using solar, wind and wave energy, but there are lots of short-term options besides burning oil, including nuclear and coal.
