(growth hormone) starts being released a lot during puberty, and this sets the processes in action that speed up growth. But you need all the other ingredients too. Having lots of growth hormone swimming around is like having lots of construction workers, but they won’t do much building unless they also have plenty of materials, which in a teenager’s case means calcium, protein, all the vitamins and such. The best thing you can do is make sure you have a really healthy diet with all the ingredients of bones, muscles, flesh in abundance. In theory extra growth hormone might speed it up too, but that’s very dangerous – your body is careful to use just the right amount, and too much may have nasty side effects.
You can’t change your genes, so the best way to ensure that you make the most of the genes that you do have and grow to your full potential is to eat a balanced, healthy diet!
This is similar to another question about growth- whatever age you are, protein provides the ‘building blocks’ of the body, required for development of all kinds of things like bones and muscles and your brain. You can get this from meat and fish and dairy products. Carbohydrates give you the energy required to grow, and these come from things like cereals, bread, fruit and vegetables. You also need some fat for all the processes that go on in your body and for your brain and nerves to work properly. Essential fats come from some fish, nuts, and avocadoes. You need a good balanced mixture of all these things, especially when you’re doing so much growing and developing as a teenager!
