Finding out things that I didn’t know before and learning about how the world around us works. I also love the way that maths can be found in the natural world.

Hi, people are constantly discovering new things in science so it never gets boring. It’s fun being challenged with new ideas all the time. And you get paid to do something you LIKE doing…

You know that “Jungle Run” game on TV? Or think of any kind of treasure hunt, or computer game, where you have to solve a series of puzzles and there’s something great if you get to the end. Imagine such a thing, but in which when you get to the end, a whole new treasure hunt starts with different puzzles and prizes. I have never played games like that, but if I did I would really love them. The reason I don’t play them is because I don’t need to – I’m a scientist, which means my working life is just like that anyway.

Looking at what other researchers have found and then using that information to progress your work so that working in collaboration allows major advances in scientific knowledge to be obtained. Its very satisfying.

In science, you can find things out that nobody else knows. It is very exciting when you discover something new and you know that not a single other person in the world knows the thing that you know!
