I’ve used my maths to create a process for evaluating how much an engineering project is worth in terms of money – not an invention in the conventional “Dragon’s Den” sense though!

We didn’t have a centrifuge able to spin plates in one of the labs I worked in so I used a salad spinner instead, it worked!

I don’t invent things, as such, as my work does experiments with human volunteers to try to find out how they work. We have found out what sorts of features attract people’s attention in pictures, how well people can recognize faces when viewed at different angles, how many objects in a scene people can remember and how they bind these objects with their locations, that people unite physical actions with memory for objects so that repeating a physical action can enhance the memory for the object, and several other theories relating to memory, face perception and the control of our eyes while searching for objects or just looking at pictures.
