Yes, I really enjoy my job. Discovering new things that nobody else knows is very rewarding, and it sometimes feels like I’m having fun doing something I enjoy rather than working. I am lucky that the subject area I work in is something I’m very interested in.

I LOVE my work. I get to take bits of planes to labs and zap them with lightning which is *really* cool. And I know that the work I’m doing will eventually make a difference to the design of planes which is amazing when I think about it. I’m also lucky that I get on really well with my colleagues which always helps.

Being a chocolate taster for Cadbury’s would be a pretty enjoyable job for a while, but you’d get really, really fat and your teeth would fall out. Being a world champion athlete would have its enjoyable bits, but all that getting up early, training, and restricted and specialised food intake would get really tiresome. Being the warden for a tropical island would be great, but in bad weather you might go for weeks without food supplies. Basically, it all comes down to food, and as a scientist, I can take lots of breaks and spend that time in cafes and restaurants and sweet shops.
